Transition into the United States
How do I prepare?
What do I research? What do I need
to know? When do I leave? Relocating
to the United States is a very exciting
time in your life. It can also be overwhelming.
A wealth of information is available
about America. Sorting through it and
properly preparing yourself for a transition
to the United States can be difficult.
To help with your relocation, PPR International
has a team of Transition Specialists
available to help with every aspect
of transition preparation. The transition
team begins communication with you
once you have passed your NCLEX and
have joined the PPR International program.
The transition program has three basic
pieces: Pre-Test, Interview and Employment
Pack.
Click on the
below categories to learn more.
Pre Test
In order to present our
client hospitals with the
very best nurses and because
our goal is to have great
international nurses working
in great American hospitals,
PPR International must ensure
that basic nursing knowledge
meets American standards.
Every nurse is asked to complete
a short pre-test before being
interviewed. The test is
65 questions addressing basic
nursing skills. The areas
on the test may include Medical
Surgical, Pediatrics, Psychiatry,
Community Health and Maternity.
|
Interview
The next step after taking
the pre-test is a short and
informal phone interview.
We will need a copy of your
resume for the interview.
Please make sure it is up
to date.

Employment Pack
If PPR
International accepts you
into the program, the next
step is to complete an Employment
Pack. An Employment Pack
includes applications, contracts,
NCLEX forms. The Employment
Pack should be returned to
PPR International within
14 business days. Most of
these forms can be faxed
or scanned and e-mailed.
Certain forms require originals.
Once PPR International receives
all the required forms and
documents from the Employment
Pack you will begin our on-line
Study Program to help prepare
you for the NCLEX. If you
have already passed the NCELX,
as soon as PPR International
receives all the required
forms from the Employment
Pack we will begin filing
for your green card. If you
are a CGFNS passer with your
ICHP certificate and you
have not passed the NCELX,
as soon as PPR International
receives all the required
forms from the Employment
Pack we will begin filing
for your green card as you
prepare for the NCLEX with
our on-line Study Program.

Preparing
for the NCLEX and Licensing
One
of the most important steps in
the beginning of your journey
to the United States is licensing.
PPR International will take this
very confusing process out of
your hands and process your application
for you. We will even pay the
fee associated with filing the
application! We have established
wonderful professional relationships
with the respective State Boards
of Nursing. You will receive
an application for licensure
in the Employment Pack. In order
to file for a state license we
will need the completed application
and a 2-inch x 2-inch photo.
Depending on which state we license
you through, we will also need
a copy of your nursing license
in your home country and official/stamped
transcripts. If you are a CGFNS
certificate holder we will need
a copy of that as well. Additional
details can be discussed with
a PPR representative when the
time comes.

Study Program
In order
to make sure you pass the
NCLEX the first time, we
will enroll you in our Study
Program. It is an extensive
program that usually runs
three to four months. It
consists of three phases.
Each phase focuses on a different
aspect of nursing in the
United States. Each phase
has a different number of
tests and corresponds directly
to the NCLEX preparation
books we suggest you use.
The only cost you will incur
is the cost of the books.
However, these books are
a very valuable tool to you,
especially once you start
working in the United States.
They will help you prepare
for the NCLEX and should
start to explain the differences
in nursing overseas and in
the United States. They are
easy to read and have great
color photos to help explain
the material you will be
learning.
